WASHINGTON — The IRS updated Publication 535 Monday to classify legal fees from politically motivated investigations as ordinary business expenses.

Taxpayers can now write off costs for defying subpoenas, provided the inquiry originated from a previous administration. Audits targeting loyalists will be retroactively voided. "It's just standard accounting," said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
